I have told you already about my early decision to fish exclusively with split-cane fly rods. Of course this meant I would eventually fish with my own creations, but in the meantime, I used my “trusted old two-hand rods” from Sharpes and Hardy for salmon in Ireland and Norway.

And long before “A Passion for Angling” with Chris Yates was aired, I bought two of the legendary B.James rods, the Mark IV and the Mark IV Avon to fish for anything that swims in my local rivers and lakes. Needless to say I fish these rods with great enthusiasm to this very day, and they were these rods which sparked my interest in developing a diversified line of rod models.

Since 2003 I have been expanding my so-called Coarse fishing sector (fishing with longer rods and a Centre pin reel e.g.) in my model line with the same attempt at perfection found in my other models.  It is the FIBH-ferrule again that offers fantastic new possibilities to build very light and sensitive rods in lengths of 10-14ft.

Which rod building projects do I want to realize in the future?

I believe that in my current programme there is a rod for every taste. What keeps me thinking though is building a 9ft 3” parabolic for a line size 2 with under 100grams (under 3.5 oz ). This rod will lead me to the limits of what’s possible to build with bamboo.

But this is exactly what makes bamboo rod building so exciting, isn’t it?

I am very curious about the outcome myself!
